January 10, 2013 8:16 AM | Anonymous
In its ongoing mission to support the vision and philosophy of Dr. Suzuki, the North Texas Suzuki Association is pleased to announce the details of the 2013 Scholarship Auditions. Please pass this information on to interested students and parents.

The scholarship committee will meet with string scholarship applicants on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Bellaire Elementary School, 501 Bellaire Drive, Hurst, TX 76053 during the Trophy Festival. Auditions will be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Although each audition will take less than ten minutes, parents must be available for the entire day, as we will not be able to accommodate requests for specific times. Student performances will be evaluated based upon the SAA’s Performance Descriptors which may be viewed on the SAA’s website:

The following scholarships will be awarded to students to support their attendance at a summer Suzuki Institute during 2013. Any student studying a Suzuki instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, and harp) with a current member of the North Texas Suzuki Association is invited to apply. New in 2013: students must be working in Book 2 or above to qualify for a scholarship.

 The Helen Gerald Memorial Scholarship - $500.00
 The Gwen Runyon Memorial Scholarship - $500.00
 The Jennifer Burton Founder’s Award - $500.00
 North Texas Suzuki Association Scholarships in the amount of $250.00

Two scholarships in the amount of $300.00 will be awarded to teachers who wish to attend a summer Suzuki Institute as a teacher workshop participant. Teachers must be current members of the SAA and NTSA.
Student Scholarship Requirements

 Students must perform two polished pieces live before the Scholarship Committee on March 2, 2013. Selections may be from or beyond the Suzuki Core Repertoire. Students living outside of a 50 mile radius of the DFW metroplex may submit a DVD recording that will be viewed by the judges on the audition day. This recording must accompany the application materials.

 Piano students that wish to audition for a scholarship must submit a DVD recording of their audition, as the audition site does not have a piano suitable for performance. A Suzuki piano teacher will serve on the Scholarship Audition Committee.

 Students must ask their teachers to complete a confidential Teacher Recommendation Form and this form must be received by the committee prior to the audition.

 Students must also be prepared to engage in a brief informal interview. The panel will ask the students some simple questions about their Suzuki experience.

Teacher Scholarship Requirements
 Teachers must be current NTSA members and be able to document their commitment to the Suzuki method via a brief written application.
